Some more recent releases to tell you about!

First up my collaboration with Jesus Pablo, ‘While You Were Out’ is now out on the mighty BulletDodge label, featuring remixes from Matt Masters (of Freerange Records) and Werner Niedermeier. I’ve had an original track, ‘Reward System’ released on a compilation from Lens Media Side B, a great label that I’m very pleased to be associated with. There’s a selection of brilliant artists on the compilation so I’m in great company here :)

Next, three remixes for my favourite label of the moment, Savoir Faire Musique. I’m lucky enough to be one of the stable of artists that they are focussing on for their releases; I have a 3-track original EP coming up later this year and in the meantime these two remix projects.

Despite as much careful planning as possible, I’ve managed to have two EPs release on the same day. It’s rather confusing but to be honest: a nice problem to have.

‘Feel It’ and ‘Either Way Around’ appear on a two-track EP as my third release on UK label Unrivaled Music. The other release is my second collaboration with Jesus Pablo, ’Lady In Turquoise’, released on Draft. The EP features the original track along with two great remixes by Kirby and Matches. I’ve had a busy time of it in April with releases on three different labels - and busy is always good :)

First up, my remix of Jesus Pablo’s ‘The F Word’ was released on Headtunes on 10th April and has garnered some favourable reviews, notably this one from South Africa’s Houseonmag site: http://bit.ly/J2LNHh and also from This Is Why We Dance: http://bit.ly/IQ43TL

Finally I’m really pleased that my ‘Ghostwritten’ EP was released on Savoir Faire Musique on 30th April, definitely my best so far and on a great new label. Tony S ‘Emergence’ EP out now!

Very pleased that my ‘Emergence’ EP has been released on Soul Shift Music, a very quick turnaround from getting it signed at the end of summer. Three slightly obscure tunes I guess but I’m really proud of them.

Please don’t be put off by the title, this blog is a collection of “notes and signs found around the DJ booth” and regularly makes me cringe and weep with laughter at the same time.

Feedback and requests from your audience are one of the great things about DJing, and developing the skill to deal with them well is a lifetime’s work. Playing a specific night is generally fine, since punters usually know what to expect, but when it’s a general ‘late night with DJ’ in any kind of venue it can get stressful and funny in equal measure. The pictures on this site reflect that perfectly.

My favourite request so far:

Punter: “What kind of music are you playing tonight?”

Me: “House music”

Punter: “Oh ok, so have you got any Arcade Fire?”

Here’s a mix of some tracks I’ve been liking recently, a lot of which I played at the MUAK gig at the end of May … apart from the first one, of course :-)

Coltrane was a genuine musical genius who wrote simple, dramatic tunes like this one, and used them as a base from which to often explore the outer realms of harmony and rhythm. Far removed from deep house I guess … but it’s all music in the end.
